Latest Update (2/2/26, 10 a.m.): Due to expected cold temperatures, there will be no closures on Turkey Lake Road tonight. Crews are planning to close southbound Turkey Lake Road just south of Sand Lake Road for paving for the rest of this week starting Tuesday night, February 3 at 10 p.m. each night and finishing by 6 a.m. each morning (weather permitting). Southbound traffic will follow the detour instructions below. Crews will continue to monitor weather forecasts throughout the week to determine which nights paving can take place. Please check this section of this web page for the latest update, as the direction of each closure is subject to change.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is implementing overnight closures to mill and resurface Turkey Lake Road between Sand Lake Road (State Road (S.R.) 482) and the Phillips Village shopping plaza, just south of Sand Lake Sound Road. This work is part of the Interstate 4 (I-4) and Sand Lake Road interchange project.
Crews will close either northbound or southbound Turkey Lake Road overnight starting as early as 10 p.m. each night and opening by 6 a.m. the next morning. Only one direction of the road will be closed at a time. Please note that when southbound Turkey Lake Road is closed, all southbound traffic will follow a detour that uses I-4. Local traffic during the northbound closures will be limited to a single lane (see below). This operation is necessary so crews can complete milling, resurfacing, and paving of Turkey Lake Road to tie in a new loop ramp as part of a major project milestone.
On Northbound Paving Nights:
- Turkey Lake Road will remain open with one lane in both directions through the work zone.
- Northbound traffic will be diverted to one inside lane on the southbound side.
- Southbound motorists will be limited to the single outside lane.
- Cones, barrels, and signage will guide drivers through the work zone.
- Stay alert, follow signage, and drive with caution.
On Southbound Paving Nights:
- All southbound traffic on Turkey Lake Road between Phillips Village shopping plaza and Sand Lake Road will be diverted.
- All northbound lanes of Turkey Lake Road will remain open on southbound paving nights.
- Stay alert, follow signage, drive with caution, and allow for extra travel time.
What to Expect:
Crews will pave Turkey Lake Road in three sections, starting at the south end of the work zone and progressing north. Section 1 begins at Phillips Village and ends at Sand Lake Sound Road. Section 2 begins at Sand Lake Road Sound Road and ends at Lake Marie Way. Section 3 begins at Lake Marie Way and ends at Sand Lake Road.
About the Project:
This paving operation is part of the I-4 and Sand Lake Road interchange improvement project. The project is transforming the interchange as a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). A new loop ramp will replace the existing left turns from westbound Sand Lake Road to southbound Turkey Lake Road.
The project is also reconstructing the I-4 general use lanes from west of Sand Lake Road to the end of the I-4 Ultimate project. Crews are constructing two westbound, barrier-separated, I-4 Express lanes from west of Kirkman Road to west of Sand Lake Road. These will transition to a single, buffer-separated westbound express lane from west of Sand Lake Road and tie in just west of Central Florida Parkway. This I-4 Express extension will be constructed in three separate projects with the finished lane extending from west of its current endpoint to west of S.R. 536.
