TLR Paving Section-2 Sand Lake Sound Rd to Lake Marie Way and Phillips Crossing 2026-01-08
Overnight Turkey Lake Road Paving Operation January 14 – February 13

Motorists should be advised that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is implementing intermittent nightly closures on Turkey Lake Road Sunday through Thursday nights from January 14 to February 13 for a major paving operation. The closures will occur between the Phillips Village shopping plaza, just south of Sand Lake Sound Road, and Sand Lake Road (State Road (S.R.) 482).

Crews will close either northbound or southbound Turkey Lake Road overnight starting as early as 10 p.m. each night and opening by 6 a.m. the next morning. Only one direction of the road will be closed at a time. Please note that when southbound Turkey Lake Road is closed, all southbound traffic will follow a detour that uses Interstate 4 (I-4). Local traffic during the northbound closures will be limited to a single lane (see below). This operation is necessary so crews can complete milling, resurfacing, and paving of Turkey Lake Road to tie in a new loop ramp as part of a major project milestone.

Latest Update: Crews will begin the operation with northbound Turkey Lake Road closures the first week (nightly January 14-15). After the first week, crews will move to the next phase of the paving operation as each section is completed. Please check this section of this web page for the latest update, as the direction of each closure is subject to change.

During the Northbound Turkey Lake Closures:

Motorists will still have local access to Turkey Lake Road in both directions on the nights of the northbound closures, but only one lane will be open in each direction through the work zone. Crews will divert northbound traffic to one inside lane on the southbound side. Cones and signage will guide northbound traffic through the work zone. Southbound traffic will be limited to a single outside lane.

During the Southbound Turkey Lake Closures:

On the nights of the southbound Turkey Lake Road closures, all southbound traffic south of Sand Lake Road will be detoured. Motorists heading south on Turkey Lake Road from the Sand Lake Road and Turkey Lake Road intersection will use the westbound I-4 ramp. From westbound I-4, motorists will take Exit 70, turning right onto westbound Daryl Carter Parkway. From there, motorists can either turn left to continue south on Palm Parkway or turn right onto northbound Palm Parkway, which becomes Turkey Lake Road north of Central Florida Parkway.

Crews will pave Turkey Lake Road in three sections, starting at the south end of the work zone and progressing north. Section 1 begins at Phillips Village and ends at Sand Lake Sound Road. Section 2 begins at Sand Lake Road Sound Road and ends at Lake Marie Way. Section 3 begins at Lake Marie Way and ends at Sand Lake Road.

This paving operation is part of the I-4 and Sand Lake Road interchange improvement project. The project is transforming the interchange as a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). A new loop ramp will replace the existing left turns from westbound Sand Lake Road to southbound Turkey Lake Road.

The project is also reconstructing the I-4 general use lanes from west of Sand Lake Road to the end of the I-4 Ultimate project. Crews are constructing two westbound, barrier-separated, I-4 Express lanes from west of Kirkman Road to west of Sand Lake Road. These will transition to a single, buffer-separated westbound express lane from west of Sand Lake Road and tie in just west of Central Florida Parkway. This I-4 Express extension will be constructed in three separate projects with the finished lane extending from west of its current endpoint to west of S.R. 536.
