Motorists should be advised that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is implementing nightly closures of all lanes of westbound Interstate 4 (I-4) from Kirkman Road to Central Florida Parkway on September 23-24 and 30 and October 1 and 7-8. The closures will begin as early as 10 p.m. and are expected to reopen by 6 a.m. the following morning.
The closures are necessary for crews to conduct widening operations for a segment of the westbound I-4 exit ramp to eastbound S.R. 528 (Beachline Expressway).
Motorists traveling west on I-4 who are headed to S.R. 528 will exit early at Exit 75B to Kirkman Road (S.R. 435) and travel south until they reach the ramp to the traffic signal for Sand Lake Road. Motorists will keep left onto the ramp to the signal and turn left onto eastbound Sand Lake Road. From Sand Lake Road, they will turn right onto southbound John Young Parkway, proceeding to S.R. 528.
Motorists on Sand Lake Road who are heading to westbound I-4 will turn onto southbound Turkey Lake Road and proceed until they reach Central Florida Parkway. Motorists will then turn left onto eastbound Central Florida Parkway and turn right onto the westbound I-4 entrance ramp.
FDOT advises motorists to follow all posted signs. Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
This project will widen the westbound I-4 exit ramp to eastbound S.R. 528 from one lane to two lanes, improving capacity and traffic flow.
The project began in January 2024 and is anticipated to reach completion in 2026.
Please continue to use caution while driving through active construction zones. Remember to always be alert while riding or driving.
