ATTENTION DRIVERS: I-4 Exit Ramps to Sand Lake Road (Exit 74A) to Close Starting March 2

Motorists are advised that the westbound and eastbound Interstate 4 (I-4) exit ramps to Sand Lake Road (State Road (S.R.) 482) at Exit 74A will be closed overnight starting March 2 through Friday, March 7. The ramp closures are scheduled to begin as early as 10 p.m. each night and are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning.

From March 2 through 7, the westbound I-4 exit ramp to Sand Lake Road will be closed for paving operations.

During the westbound ramp closure, motorists traveling on westbound I-4 who wish to access Sand Lake Road (Exit 74A) should take Exit 74B onto Adventure Way. From there, motorists will turn right onto eastbound Hollywood Way, then turn right again onto southbound Universal Boulevard, and proceed to Sand Lake Road.

Alternatively, after taking Exit 74B onto Adventure Way, motorists can turn left onto westbound Hollywood Way, then turn left again onto southbound Turkey Lake Road, and proceed south to Sand Lake Road. See the attached map for detailed detour information.

From March 4-7, the eastbound I-4 exit ramp to Sand Lake Road will be closed for overhead sign relocation.

During the eastbound ramp closure, motorists traveling on eastbound I-4 who wish to access Sand Lake Road (Exit 74A) will continue east and take Exit 75A at Universal Boulevard. Drivers will then turn right onto southbound Universal Boulevard and proceed to Sand Lake Road. See the attached map for detailed detour information.

Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

This work is part of the improvement project at the I-4 and Sand Lake Road interchange. Crews are reconstructing the interchange as a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). The project is reconfiguring and lengthening ramps at the interchange and improving capacity on Sand Lake Road and Turkey Lake Road. A new loop ramp will replace the existing left turns from westbound Sand Lake Road to southbound Turkey Lake Road. Upon completion, motorists will also be able to bypass Sand Lake Road and exit I-4 directly to Turkey Lake Road on the new ramp system.

In addition, the project includes reconstructing the I-4 general use lanes from the end of the I-4 Ultimate project near Kirkman Road (S.R. 435) to west of Sand Lake Road. Crews are constructing two barrier-separated westbound I-4 Express lanes from the existing express lanes near Kirkman Road to west of Sand Lake Road. These lanes will transition to a single, buffer-separated express lane in the westbound direction from west of Sand Lake Road and tie in just west of Central Florida Parkway. This express lane extension will be constructed in three separate projects, with the finished lane stretching from west of Sand Lake Road to west of World Center Drive (S.R. 536).

Construction on the project began in spring 2023 and is expected to be fully completed in 2027.
