Time-lapse Footage Shows Sand Lake Road Changeover
The interchange at Interstate 4 (I-4) and Sand Lake Road (State Road (S.R.) 482) in Orange County has had a new traffic pattern since March 9, when crews modified it to a diverging diamond interchange (DDI) overnight. The video above shows time-lapse footage of the implementation, with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) crews able to keep at least one lane of traffic open in each direction during the entire operation.
While the interchange is now a DDI, FDOT urges motorists to be patient while driving through the area, as construction is expected to continue into 2027. Major milestones still to come include construction of a new loop ramp from westbound Sand Lake Road to Turkey Lake Road — which will also allow drivers on westbound I-4 to exit directly to Turkey Lake Road — and an I-4 Express extension.
