National Secure Your Load Day is June 6th and the observance was created as a result of the hard work and activism of a mother whose daughter’s life was forever changed in 2004 by an unsecured load.
Robin Abel’s daughter, Maria Federici, was 24 years old and driving home when a piece of particle board flew out of the back of a nearby trailer and through her windshield, blinding and nearly killing her.
Since the incident, Abel has worked tirelessly to educate everyone about the potential consequences of driving with improperly secured loads.

Some other questions you want to ask are “Would I want my loaded vehicle driving through my neighborhood?” and “Is my load secured at the back, sides, and top?”
It’s important to remember that even items that seem harmless can become dangerous projectiles or obstacles if ejected from a trailer.
Always double check your load to make sure it’s secure. Don’t forget to properly secure any animals, too!
