Motorists should be advised that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is implementing overnight closures of Interstate 4 (I-4) at State Road (S.R.) 528 (Beachline Expressway) January 6-9.
Eastbound I-4 at S.R. 528 will be closed overnight January 6 and 7, and westbound I-4 from Exit 74B (Adventure Way) to Central Florida Parkway will be closed overnight January 8 and 9. The closures will begin as early as 10 p.m. and are expected to reopen by 6 a.m. the following morning.
The closures are necessary for crews to set beams over the interstate. The operation is a critical step in the project to widen the westbound I-4 exit ramp to eastbound S.R. 528 from one to two lanes.
During the January 6 and 7 closures, motorists traveling east on I-4 will be directed to use Exit 72 to eastbound S.R. 528. From S.R. 528, they will use Exit 1 to access northbound International Drive, then take an immediate right turn onto the loop ramp to westbound S.R. 528. From westbound S.R. 528, motorists can proceed to eastbound I-4.
During the January 8 and 9 closures, motorists traveling west on I-4 will be directed to take Exit 74B to Adventure Way. They will travel north to Hollywood Way, turning left and traveling west to Turkey Lake Road. From there, drivers will turn left onto southbound Turkey Lake Road and proceed until they reach Central Florida Parkway. Motorists will then turn left onto eastbound Central Florida Parkway and take the westbound I-4 entrance ramp on the right.
Because the ramp from westbound I-4 to S.R. 528 will not be accessible during the January 8 and 9 closures, motorists traveling west on I-4 to S.R. 528 will exit early at Exit 75B to access southbound Kirkman Road (S.R. 435). Motorists will proceed south on Kirkman Road to the Sand Lake Road ramp, staying in the left lane and turning left at the traffic signal. From westbound Sand Lake Road, motorists will turn right onto southbound John Young Parkway, proceeding to S.R. 528. See the detour maps below for more information.
This project will widen the westbound I-4 exit ramp to eastbound S.R. 528 from one lane to two lanes, improving capacity and traffic flow.
The project began in January 2024 and is anticipated to reach completion in 2026.
Motorists should follow all posted signs and use extra caution while driving through active construction zones. Remember to always be alert while riding or driving.
Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
