ATTENTION DRIVERS: Daryl Carter Parkway Overpass at I-4 to Close from March 16 to March 19

Motorists should be advised that the Daryl Carter Parkway overpass at Interstate 4 (I-4) will close starting the evening of Sunday, March 16, and remain closed until the morning of Wednesday, March 19.

The closure will start as soon as 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, and the overpass is expected to reopen by 6 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19. The closure is necessary for milling, paving, and striping to implement a new diverging diamond traffic pattern on the overpass.

Motorists wishing to travel eastbound on the Daryl Carter Parkway overpass can head either north or south on Palm Parkway to bypass the closure. Those traveling north on Palm Parkway will turn right onto eastbound Central Florida Parkway, then turn right again onto Westwood Boulevard, heading southeast. From there, motorists will proceed to International Drive, turning right and heading south to access Daryl Carter Parkway. Motorists traveling south on Palm Parkway will turn left on Apopka-Vineland Road (State Road (S.R.) 535) and continue southeast. From there, motorists will turn left onto Vineland Avenue, where they will proceed north and then east, before turning left again onto northbound International Drive to return to Daryl Carter Parkway.

Motorists wishing to travel westbound on the Daryl Carter Parkway overpass can head either north or south on International Drive to bypass the closure. Motorists traveling north on International Drive will turn left onto Westwood Boulevard to head northwest and continue until they turn left onto westbound Central Florida Parkway. Drivers will turn left again onto southbound Palm Parkway, continuing to Daryl Carter Parkway. Those traveling south on International Drive will turn right onto Vineland Avenue, heading west and then south to S.R. 535. After turning right onto westbound S.R. 535, motorists will turn right again onto northbound Palm Parkway, proceeding to Daryl Carter Parkway.

The diverging diamond configuration is being implemented ahead of the opening of the new ramps that will connect Daryl Carter Parkway to I-4 later this year. This staggered timeline ensures that motorists can adjust to driving through the new traffic pattern and provides a safe workspace for crews during construction.

The new diverging diamond traffic pattern will guide motorists from the right side of the road to the left through a signalized intersection. Motorists will then be guided from the left side of the road back to the right side through a second signalized intersection.

This work is an integral step in the ongoing project to transform the Daryl Carter Parkway overpass into a new diverging diamond interchange (DDI), featuring new exit ramps from both directions of I-4 and an eastbound I-4 entrance ramp. Crews are also constructing a single, buffer-separated, westbound express lane from west of Central Florida Parkway to west of Daryl Carter Parkway. The finished express lane will extend from west of Sand Lake Road to west of S.R. 536 and will be constructed in three separate projects. A westbound I-4 entrance ramp from Daryl Carter Parkway will be built later as part of a separate project.

Construction on the project began in fall 2022 and is expected to be fully completed in summer 2025.

Please keep in mind that construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
