National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) is an annual spring campaign held at the start of construction season to encourage safe driving through highway work zones.
This year’s theme, “Drive Safe. Work Safe. Save Lives,” encourages motorists to use extra caution in work zones to protect themselves, other drivers, and road workers.
Correct!
In the long run, speeding in work zones saves little time and is only harmful.
Not quite...
On average, a work zone crash occurs once every 5.4 minutes. Remember: When you’re behind the wheel, it is your decision to drive safely. A few minor changes can make sure everyone gets home safely at the end of the day.
The most common work zone crash is a rear-end collision. Remember not to tailgate and maintain a safe distance, as you never know when traffic will stop or slow down.
Work zones are changing environments. Travel lanes may be different from the last time you drove through the area. Pay attention — don’t let anything divert your attention from the primary task of driving.
You could do the other activities to promote work zone safety. But the simplest and most common way to support National Work Zone Awareness Week is to participate in Go Orange Day on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. Go Orange Day is an important time to show your support for roadway safety, especially to the families of victims who have lost their lives in work zones.
