Closures include:
- Westbound I-4 entrance ramp from Kirkman Road (State Road (S.R.) 435)
- Westbound I-4 entrance ramp from Adventure Way
- Westbound I-4 Express between John Young Parkway (County Road (C.R.) 423) and Sand Lake Road (S.R. 482)
See detour information and map below.
Detour Information for Westbound I-4 Entrance Ramp Closures
Motorists traveling north on Adventure Way who wish to access westbound I-4 will continue north and turn left onto westbound Hollywood Way at the traffic signal. Motorists will turn left again onto southbound Turkey Lake Road and proceed to Sand Lake Road. At the signal, motorists will turn left again to head east on Sand Lake Road, staying in the right lane and turning right onto westbound I-4.
Alternatively, motorists on northbound Adventure Way can turn right onto eastbound Hollywood Way at the traffic signal. Motorists will turn right again onto southbound Universal Boulevard and proceed to Sand Lake Road. At the signal, motorists will turn right again to head west on Sand Lake Road, staying in the left lane and turning left onto westbound I-4.
Motorists traveling south on Kirkman Road who wish to access westbound I-4 will continue south to the Sand Lake Road ramp, staying in the right lane and turning right onto westbound Sand Lake Road. Motorists will then turn left to access westbound I-4.
Information for Westbound I-4 Express Closure
Motorists on westbound I-4 Express will be instructed to exit I-4 Express at the slip ramp between John Young Parkway and Conroy Road, proceeding onto westbound I-4. Motorists traveling on Grand National Drive will not be able to access westbound I-4 Express and should instead proceed to westbound I-4 at Sand Lake Road.
FDOT advises motorists to follow all posted detour signs. Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
This work is part of the improvement project at the I-4 and Sand Lake Road interchange. Crews are reconstructing the interchange as a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). The project is reconfiguring and lengthening ramps at the interchange and improving capacity on Sand Lake Road and Turkey Lake Road. A new loop ramp will replace the existing left turns from westbound Sand Lake Road to southbound Turkey Lake Road. Upon completion, motorists will also be able to bypass Sand Lake Road and exit I-4 directly to Turkey Lake Road on the new ramp system.
In addition, the project includes reconstructing the I-4 general use lanes from the end of the I-4 Ultimate project near Kirkman Road to west of Sand Lake Road. Crews are constructing two barrier-separated westbound I-4 Express lanes from the existing express lanes near Kirkman Road to west of Sand Lake Road. These lanes will transition to a single, buffer-separated express lane in the westbound direction from west of Sand Lake Road and tie in just west of Central Florida Parkway. This express lane extension will be constructed in three separate projects, with the finished lane stretching from west of Sand Lake Road to west of S.R. 536.
Construction on the project began in spring 2023 and is expected to be fully completed in 2027.
