Motorists are advised that the outside lane on the eastbound Interstate 4 (I-4) entrance ramp from Apopka-Vineland Road (State Road (S.R.) 535) will close as soon as 11 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, and is expected to remain closed until summer 2026. The inside lane of the ramp will remain open and accessible. The lane closure is necessary to provide a safe route for pedestrians using a temporary sidewalk constructed on the west side of Apopka-Vineland Road during bridge construction on the east side of the roadway.
Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
This work is part of the improvement project at the I-4 and Apopka-Vineland Road interchange. Crews are reconstructing the interchange to enhance safety and improve access to and from westbound I-4. The project is constructing a new loop ramp from northbound Apopka-Vineland Road to westbound I-4 to enhance safety and mobility by eliminating the need for motorists to turn left across traffic. The project will also help realign the westbound I-4 entrance ramp from southbound Apopka-Vineland Road, improving traffic flow and giving motorists more time to merge onto I-4, and crews will lengthen the westbound I-4 exit ramp to Apopka-Vineland Road to reduce backups onto the I-4 mainline.
In addition, the project includes adding a single, buffer-separated, westbound express lane to I-4 from west of Daryl Carter Parkway to west of S.R. 536. The complete express lane will be built in three separate projects extending from west of Sand Lake Road (S.R. 482) to west of S.R. 536. The project also includes milling and resurfacing Apopka-Vineland Road and extending storage for left- and right-turn lanes.
Construction on the project began in fall 2023 and is expected to be fully completed in 2026.
