ATTENTION DRIVERS: Eastbound I-4 Exit Ramp to Sand Lake Road to Close Overnight November 24

NOVEMBER 22 UPDATE: The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will implement an additional overnight ramp closure on the eastbound I-4 exit ramp to Sand Lake Road on Sunday, November 24. The ramp closure is scheduled to start as soon as 10 p.m. and is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. the next morning. Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Motorists should be advised that a full closure of the eastbound Interstate 4 (I-4) exit ramp to Sand Lake Road (State Road (S.R.) 482) is scheduled to take place overnight on Sunday, November 10 and Tuesday, November 12.

The ramp closure is scheduled to start as soon as 10 p.m. each night and is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. the next morning. This closure is necessary for asphalt paving and widening work.

Motorists traveling on eastbound I-4 who wish to access Sand Lake Road (Exit 74A) will continue east and take Exit 75A at Universal Boulevard. Drivers will then turn right onto southbound Universal Boulevard to access Sand Lake Road. See the detour map below.

This work is part of the I-4 improvement project at I-4 and Sand Lake Road. Crews are reconstructing the interchange as a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). The project is reconfiguring and lengthening ramps at the interchange and improving capacity on Sand Lake Road and Turkey Lake Road. A new loop ramp will replace the existing left turns from westbound Sand Lake Road to southbound Turkey Lake Road. Motorists will also be able to bypass Sand Lake Road and exit I-4 directly to Turkey Lake Road on the new ramp system.

In addition, the project includes reconstructing the I-4 general use lanes from west of Sand Lake Road to the end of the I-4 Ultimate project at Kirkman Road (S.R. 435). Crews are constructing two barrier-separated westbound I-4 Express lanes from west of Sand Lake Road to connect to the existing express lanes near Kirkman Road. These lanes will transition to a single, buffer-separated express lane in the westbound direction from west of Sand Lake Road and tie in just west of Central Florida Parkway. This express lane extension will be constructed in three separate projects, with the finished lane stretching from west of Sand Lake Road to west of World Center Drive (S.R. 536).

Construction on the project began in spring 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2027.
