Road Rangers: Heroes of the Highway

Breaking down on one of Central Florida’s highways can be stressful, but the Road Ranger Service Patrol offers free roadside assistance to help you get back on your way safely.

Road Rangers can assist with changing tires, refueling vehicles, jump-starting engines, providing two free local calls, and moving disabled vehicles to safer locations. Since the program launched in 2000, Road Rangers have completed more than 6.1 million service assists.

To request help from a Road Ranger, call *FHP (*347) and be ready to share what roadway you’re on, your direction of travel, and the last exit or landmark you passed.

Road Rangers also play a key role in traffic safety by placing cones, activating hazard lights, and using digital message signs on their trucks to alert drivers to incidents ahead. If you spot a Road Ranger, emergency vehicle, or a disabled vehicle on the roadside, obey Florida’s Move Over Law and move over a lane when safe. If you can’t change lanes safely, slow down to 20 mph below the speed limit.

The Road Ranger Service Patrol is funded by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). They patrol Interstate 4 (I-4), I-4 Express, I-95, I-75, Central Florida Expressway (CFX) roadways, and Florida’s Turnpike.
