Need Help on the Road? Know Who to Call

A crash. A car on fire. A flat tire. You’ve probably seen it all on Interstate 4 (I-4). When an incident occurs, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers, sheriffs, police officers, firefighters, and other responders may be dispatched to the scene. So, who do you call when something happens on I-4? It depends on the incident.

• 911 – Call 911 if you are involved in or witness a major incident like a severe crash, a wrong-way driver, a car on fire, a crime in progress, a roadside medical emergency, or another life-threatening situation.
• *FHP (*347) – Call this number for non-life-threatening incidents, such as an object in the road, a motorist with a disabled vehicle on the roadside, a reckless driver, or if you need roadside assistance. Calling *FHP will connect you with a dispatcher who can send an FHP trooper or Road Ranger.
• 321-329-8444 – The I-4 Beyond the Ultimate hotline is for non-emergent project concerns. Call this number if you notice something at the I-4 interchange projects at Sand Lake Road (State Road (S.R.) 482) and Apopka-Vineland Road (S.R. 535). For instance, if you see a barrel out of place, a damaged or downed sign, standing water in the road, or anything else concerning on I-4 or local project roads.

Sometimes an incident may fall under more than one agency’s jurisdiction. The important thing is to remain calm and call when you see something. Once a report is made, emergency responders communicate with one another and coordinate resources so the appropriate help is dispatched.
