Motorists are advised that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is implementing overnight closures of the Interstate 4 (I-4) entrance ramps from Sand Lake Road (State Road (S.R.) 482) next week. The eastbound I-4 entrance ramp from Sand Lake Road will be closed nightly from Sunday, March 1, to Thursday, March 5. The westbound I-4 entrance ramp from Sand Lake Road will be closed overnight on Monday, March 2.
The eastbound entrance ramp closures March 1-5 will begin as early as 10 p.m. each night and are expected to reopen by 6 a.m. the following morning, with the last closure opening on the morning of Friday, March 6. These closures are necessary for utility pipe work.
- Motorists west of I-4 on Sand Lake Road who wish to access eastbound I-4 can head north on Turkey Lake Road, turn right onto eastbound Hollywood Way, then turn right onto southbound Universal Boulevard and proceed to the eastbound I-4 entrance ramp. Motorists east of I-4 on Sand Lake Road should head north on Kirkman Road (S.R. 435) and proceed to the eastbound I-4 entrance ramp. Please see the attached “Eastbound I-4 Entrance Ramp from Sand Lake Road” detour map for details.
The overnight westbound I-4 entrance ramp closure on March 2 will start as early as 10 p.m. and reopen by 6 a.m. Tuesday, March 3. This closure is necessary for sign panel replacement.
- Motorists on Sand Lake Road who wish to access westbound I-4 will travel north on Turkey Lake Road and turn right onto eastbound Hollywood Way. From there, motorists will then turn right onto southbound Adventure Way and proceed to the westbound I-4 entrance ramp. Please see the “Westbound I-4 Entrance Ramp from Sand Lake Road” attached detour map for details.
FDOT advises motorists to follow all posted detour signs. Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
This work is part of the ongoing improvement project to reconstruct the I-4 and Sand Lake Road interchange into a diverging diamond interchange (DDI) and extend I-4 Express.
Construction on the project began in spring 2023 and is expected to be fully completed in 2027.
