The bridge demolition work requiring nightly full closures of the Sand Lake Road (State Road (S.R.) 482) and Interstate 4 (I-4) interchange has been completed ahead of schedule. However, the following ramp closures are required for additional bridge work and temporary signal installation. These closures are scheduled to begin as early as 10 p.m. each night and are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning.
On the night of Thursday, August 21, motorists can expect the following ramp closures:
- Westbound I-4 entrance ramp from Sand Lake Road
- Westbound I-4 exit ramp to Sand Lake Road (Exit 74A)
Nightly from Friday, August 22, through Monday, August 25, motorists can expect the following ramp closure:
- Westbound I-4 entrance ramp from Sand Lake Road

Westbound I-4 Entrance Ramp from Sand Lake Road Detour
Motorists on Sand Lake Road who wish to access westbound I-4 should travel north on Turkey Lake Road and turn right onto eastbound Hollywood Way. Drivers will then turn right onto Adventure Way and proceed south to the westbound I-4 entrance ramp.
Westbound I-4 Exit Ramp to Sand Lake Road Detour
Motorists traveling on westbound I-4 who wish to access Sand Lake Road should take Exit 74B onto northbound Adventure Way. From there, motorists who want to access Sand Lake Road west of I-4 will turn left onto westbound Hollywood Way, then turn left again onto southbound Turkey Lake Road and proceed to Sand Lake Road.
From northbound Adventure Way, motorists who wish to access Sand Lake Road east of I-4 should turn right onto eastbound Hollywood Way, then turn right again onto southbound Universal Boulevard and proceed to Sand Lake Road.
FDOT advises motorists to follow all posted detour signs. Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
This work is part of the improvement project to reconstruct the I-4 and Sand Lake Road interchange into a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). The project is reconfiguring and lengthening ramps at the interchange and improving capacity on Sand Lake Road and Turkey Lake Road. A new loop ramp will replace the existing left turns from westbound Sand Lake Road to southbound Turkey Lake Road. Upon completion, motorists will also be able to bypass Sand Lake Road and exit I-4 directly to Turkey Lake Road on the new ramp system.
In addition, the project includes reconstructing the I-4 general use lanes from the end of the I-4 Ultimate project near Kirkman Road to west of Sand Lake Road. Crews are constructing two barrier-separated westbound I-4 Express lanes from the existing express lanes near Kirkman Road to west of Sand Lake Road. These lanes will transition to a single, buffer-separated express lane in the westbound direction from west of Sand Lake Road and tie in just west of Central Florida Parkway. This express lane extension will be constructed in three separate projects, with the finished lane stretching from west of Sand Lake Road to west of S.R. 536.
Construction on the project began in spring 2023 and is expected to be fully completed in 2027.
